Finally, after so many years and without school filters, the Colton High School library is with the social media times. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter. The links are also included on the top of the page
CJUSD Students and Staff: If you need to know your library & textbook status, please add the Destiny Library Quest App to your smartphone. The following Google Doc includes Login, Username & Password Information. Destiny Library Quest Google Doc Image located http://www.follettlearning.com/wcsstore/FSSMarketingStore/images/LibraryManagement/ management_systems_library_management-7.jpg Are you thinking about updating your smartphone or tablet with new apps over spring break? The overwhelming selection makes it a challenge to choose the best ones to download. The CHS library has made this task a little easier by selecting the most helpful educational sites. Take a look at Ms. Geltch's Favorite Educational Apps 2014 http://www.thinglink.com/scene/502499164106522625 for a few more possibilities. Images from Flickr or Google Creative Commons I downloaded 57 inspirational quotes for teachers from my free Simple K-12 subscription. Many benefit all of us. See if you find the following samples helpful for your daily interactions with others.
"Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement, nothing can be done without hope and confidence"--Helen Keller "A hundred years from now it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had in the bank... but the world may be a better place because I made a difference in the life of a child." --Forest Witcraft " If you think education is expensive, try ignorance." --Derek Bok "Seek first to understand and then to be understood."--Steven Covey "Tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift. That is why it is called the present."--Eleanor Roosevelt (Download from Pixaby) Mounting college costs are a serious concern. Colton High school students have an amazing opportunity to reduce these expenses through SBVC's Valley Bound program. SBVC offers eligible students one free year of college. Look at the following for specific requirements http://www.valleycollege.edu/academic-career-programs/specialized-programs/valley-bound-commitment Since the online posting pertains to the 2013-14 school year, make sure to get updated applications from Ms. Cardenas.

Image located at http://openclipart.org/detail/159955/welcome-back-to-school-by-gsagri04 The school year has begun at the CJUSD School District. I remain assigned at the same 3 libraries. Each school library will officially open on the week of August 20 (if not sooner) once textbook distribution is completed. Think of how your first day as you watch on old tune called "Back to School" from the movie Grease 2. As the end of the school approaches, I must assess ways I can improve library services for the 2012-13 year. Please complete the survey so Mr. Calderon and I may better address student needs. Those who complete the questionaire by Friday May 11, 2012 will be eligible for a final end-of-the-school year book drawing.
Colton High School Library Survey http://bit.ly/IRPEtr Image located at Free Digital Photos Net I enjoyed communicating with many of the underclassmen during 3rd quarter registration. I previously posted the link for online safety. I will now include the links for Online Resources (Freshmen) and After High School: Career & College (Juniors) at the end of this message. You may also retrieve these voice threads at the Web 2.0 portion of the Resource section of the website. Please ignore the Senior Graduation Gear Up since it will be updated for the the next school year.

Red Ribbon Week reminds us of the dangers of alcohol and drug use. I discussed many beneficial resources on last year's blog. They are located at the October 2010 archives section at Geltch Colton School Libraries http://youthadvocate.weebly.com/ You will also find a list of YA fiction on this topic at the Books section of this website. The above illustration states it best; "Drug Free is the Key".
Image located at http://www.cenpatico.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/DrugFree09Final.JPG Over the next few days, local author Jonathan Auxier will host book talks and signings to CJUSD students and staff. He will speak for the first four class periods and lunch at Colton Middle School on Wednesday September 21, 2011. For those who won't get to hear him at Colton Middle, he will appear again at the Colton High School Redlands Barnes & Noble bookstore at the Lugonia Shopping Center on Saturday September 24, 2011. Take a look at Jonathan's website http://www.thescop.com/ to learn more about Peter Nimble & his professional journey. After I read his Peter Nimble book & listen to Jonathan speak, I will post further thoughts on the "Books" blog from this site. In the meantime, enjoy the Peter Nimble You Tube trailer.
As I have participated in numerous Barnes & Noble Book Fairs for Colton High, Colton Middle, and Terrace Hills Middle, the primary objective has remained the same: raise as much money as possible for library books for each of the respective school libraries. The upcoming Colton High School Book Fair on Saturday September 24 will include many similar activities such as games, storytime, and music to attract visitors. However, it will slightly differ in scope in that others will also directly reap the benefits of the event.
I ask this question of CJUSD educators. Do you need more money for class supplies? I suspect many will answer in the affirmative. I invite all interested parties to attend a free grant writing workshop sponsored by Barnes & Noble at 11 AM-12PM. The CHS library also receives proceeds for those who also buy the book used during the session. How many of you like to uncover new children's literature-- particularly by a local author? Jonathan Auxier, author of Peter Thimble books, will generously offer his support to our cause. Not only will he give a book talk & have a signing during the 2-3 PM slot, he will speak at an assembly at Colton Middle School on Wednesday September 21. His books will be available for purchase at the Redlands store. I look forward to seeing many new faces as well as those who have supported the CHS library in the past on the 24th. I specifically tailored an Animoto video for this occasion. http://animoto.com/play/0VnZU5iGnqxlkiBhAxojng Image from http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ULJ2tlK_jSk/TiUFxfqUipI/AAAAAAAABgA/0M7N6FNpX8M/s400/BNCafe.jpg I tailored this website for the Colton High School community. I configured online resources mostly from Geltch Colton School Libraries
http://youthadvocate.weebly.com and Geltch High School Library http://aglibrary.yolasite.com onto this site. Teenagers, teachers, and parents will also find many helpful sites for their academic and personal endeavors.
